Former Asante Kotoko captain Amos Frimpong expresses optimism in Ghana’s chances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and believes the team’s blend of youth and experience makes them strong contenders.

The Black Stars, without a major trophy since 1982, aims to end their 42-year wait for continental success.

Ghana, led by coach Chris Hughton, opens their AFCON campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday in Ivory Coast.

The West African giants are also alongside Egypt and Mozambique in Group B.

Frimpong acknowledges the competitive nature of the tournament but remains confident in the Black Stars’ ability to make an impact and potentially clinch the coveted title.

“Our chances of winning the AFCON trophy is high. You cannot underrate any team in tournament like this. I can see the technical team are blending the young ones with the experienced players so I have the confidence Black Stars can make impact in Ivory Coast” he told Kessben FM
