Eddie Nketiah opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a curling effort from outside the area that nestled itself into the top left corner of the Forest net, well past the reach of former Gunners keeper Matt Turner.
Before Bukayo Saka’s sensational strike from outside the box gave the Gunners a two-goal cushion at the break.
Arsenal continued to dominate proceedings after the recess but had to survive a late charge by Forest after substitute Taiwo Awoniyi clawed a goal back in the 83rd minute.
Last season’s Premier League runners-up held on to ensure they came away will all three points at the Emirates stadium.
