Kevin De Bruyne has been crowned the Premier League Player of the Season for 2021-22.
The 30-year-old joins Arsenal’s Thierry Henry and Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Nemanja Vidic as the only players to win the trophy in multiple campaigns.
De Bruyne, who won the award for the first time in the 2019-20 season, has been a star player for the Citizens, who are chasing their fourth Premier League title in five seasons.
The Belgium international is most recognized for his playmaking ability, but he has also had plenty of success in front of goal this season, scoring a career-high 15 Premier League goals and adding seven assists in 29 games.
Speaking to mancity.com on receiving the award, De Bruyne said: “To win this award for a second time is an achievement that I am really proud of.
“There is so much quality in the Premier League and it is a pleasure to be nominated with so many other great players who have had incredible seasons for their clubs.
“I think my performances this season have been good and I am happy that I have been able to contribute with goals and assists throughout the season.
“Thank you to all of the staff, coaches, and especially my teammates because without them this wouldn’t be possible.”
De Bruyne takes home the award after getting the most votes from the general public, a panel of football experts, and the leaders of all 20 Premier League clubs.
To win the accolade, City’s number 17 beat out his teammate Joao Cancelo as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jarrod Bowen, Bukayo Saka, Mohamed Salah, Son Heung-min, and James Ward-Prowse.
