Ghana U23 midfield gem Emmanuel Essiam has begun to demonstrate glimpses of his resemblance to former Chelsea star Michael Essien as he displayed shrewd skill in the Swiss Super League during the weekend.
Essiam, a former Ghana Premier League midfielder at Berekum Chelsea, was handed a starting role by manager Heiko Vogel and he overly impressed in the clash which ended 1-1 with visitors Young Boys Bern taking the lead through Cameroonian forward Jean-Pierre Nsame.
Substitute Zeki Amdouni scored the leveller 22 minutes before the end of hostilities.
Essiam, who had featured just once for the Basel senior side this season, grasped the opportunity with full hands as he dazzled in central midfield to convince many about his maturity.
Prior to his promotion to the senior squad, the Ghana U23 midfielder had netted once in 6 games for Basel II in the Promotion League.
He was in action for Ibrahim Tanko’s Black Meteors side when they eliminated Algeria’s Fennec Foxes to qualify for the 2023 U23 AFCON tournament in Morocco.
Watch excerpts of his game vs Young Boys at the St. Jakob-Park which had 14,142 spectators in attendance as the 20-time league title winners excelled.
