Ghana international Daniel-Kofi Kyereh is ruled out for the remainder of the 2022/23 season after suffering an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) tear in training at his German club SC Freiburg on Thursday.

The 26-year-old attacker’s German Bundesliga club SC Freiburg revealed the unfortunate development Friday afternoon:

“Kofi Kyereh tore his cruciate ligament in training and will be out for the rest of the season.

“In Thursday’s training, Kofi Kyereh twisted his knee in a duel. An examination at Freiburg University Hospital resulted in the diagnosis of a cruciate ligament rupture. An operation is to follow in the next few days. The attacker will no longer be available this season.

“We wish Kofi successful surgery and a speedy recovery!” read the club statement.

Daniel-Kofi Kyereh has not enjoyed a smooth first season since joining Freiburg from FC St. Pauli last summer. He had to deal with injury and form issues during the first half of the season – enjoying just 970 minutes of action from 19 appearances for the Breisgauer across all competitions.

The injury also rules Kyereh out of the Black Stars’ assignments in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers in March and June.
