Ghana international Mohammed Kudus excelled with a goal as a winger as Ajax beat Excelsior 4-1 away on Sunday to return to winning ways in the Dutch Eredivisie.
It was the struggling champions’ first game post-Alfred Schreuder who got sacked straight after the poor 1-1 draw over Volendam in midweek.
Stand-in coach John Heitinga made changes and opted to hand Kudus a new role by deploying him on the right wing.
Dusan Tadic fired Ajax in front with a penalty in the 15th minute.
But Redouan El Yaakoubi headed in a cross in the 36th minute to level matters for Excelsior.
Davy Klaassen scored in the 45th minute, ensuring Ajax took a lead into the break.
Kudus then made it 3-1 with a strike from distance on the hour mark – his 7th league goal in the 2022/23 campaign.
And Devyne Rensch sealed the win with a wonderful curling finish in the 83rd minute.
The 4-1 result ends Ajax’ winless run of seven games. They are now fourth in the standings with 37 points – 5 adrift leaders Feyenoord after 19 games.
Mohammed Kudus was named King of the match.
