The Aston Villa showstopper has been pivotal for the South Americans enroute to the finals.
Essien picked France defender Raphael Varane as his choice for best centre-back, England’s Kyle Walker as the best full-back and Jude Bellingham as the most outstanding midfielder.
He however crowned Argentina talisman and captain Lionel Messi as the overall best player.
