Kingsley Coman has bounced back to the draw for the Champions League Round of 16, a stage in the competition which will see Bayern Munich cross paths with Paris Saint-Germain. A necessarily special meeting for the French attacking midfielder.
Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich never leave each other. As in the final of the 2020 edition and in the quarter-finals of the 2021 edition, the French club and the German team will cross swords in the Champions League, this time in the round of 16. A double confrontation scheduled for February 14 (Parc des Princes) and March 8 (Allianz Arena). Forced to finish in second place in Group H behind Benfica Lisbon, at the end of an unlikely scenario, Paris will find a Munich team which had prevented it from winning the first C1 in its history. On August 23, 2020, Bayern Munich dominated Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the “Final Four”, in Portugal, on a goal from Kingsley Coman.
“It could almost be the final”
Hero of the German ogre against his training club, the 26-year-old French winger reacted to the reunion with Kylian Mbappé’s partners, in a statement transcribed on the club’s official website. “It could almost be the final, but you have to take it as it comes. And what comes is that they are a difficult opponent with exceptional individual players. We won in the final in 2020, then we were narrowly beaten in the quarter-finals in 2021, so now it’s our turn again.”
Irresistible during the group stage with six wins in six days and first place in Group C ahead of Inter Milan and FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich took over the leadership of the Bundesliga last weekend. Julian Nagelsmann’s men will have solid arguments to put forward to take out Christophe Galtier’s troops and once again dampen QSI’s ambitions.
