Zapping World Eleven TOP 10: The most profitable transfers in history
Gonçalo Guedes is one of the best players in Valence this season, with 11 goals and 6 assists in 34 La Liga games. However, for two games, the Portuguese has started the matches on the bench before coming into play in the second period. The reason for this? She is financial. When Guedes was transferred from PSG in 2018 for €40m, a clause required Valencia to pay €5m more to the Parisian club if the player played more than 45 minutes in more than 30 league games. This figure being reached, the leaders asked coach José Bordalas to no longer field Guedes from the kick-off.
An agreement between the player and the club
In a press conference, the Valencian coach implied the existence of an agreement between him, Guedes and the leaders: “If the club has reached an agreement with the player, we will respect this decision always thinking of interest of the club.” Fortunately, Valencia is no longer in the running for European places, nor threatened by relegation. A scheme which therefore deprives PSG of € 5 million which could have proved precious in the face of financial fair play.
to summarize
Valencia CF should have paid an extra sum to PSG but would have to avoid it in the end. The Spanish club should have paid Paris-Saint-Germain €5m due to a clause established during the transfer of Guedes in 2018 but the Portuguese is now on the bench, preventing this clause from being triggered.
