$3m was spent at 2023 AFCON – Sports Minister reveals

Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif has revealed $3m was spent at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The amount covered expenses including chartered flights, logistics and per diems.

“The team spent $3m before, during, and after the tournament,” Ussif told Parliament’s Select Committee.

“Our team, once they are here and they are going to Cote D’Ivoire, you have to charter a flight and that flight comes at a cost.

“Apart from you flying all of them in business class, you also have to charter a flight and when they finish, you get a flight to bring them back so those are the cost,” he said.

Ghana exited the group stages of the continental event, having failed to win a game out of three.

The below-par performance triggered the dismissal of Chris Hughton as head coach and appointment of Otto Addo as his replacement on a permanent basis.
