Ghana captain Andre Ayew has released a video to apologise for Ghana’s disgraceful performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The long awaited apology finally arrived eight days after the Mozambique draw that kicked Ghana out of the tournament.
Andre released a video on his Instagram account and captioned it, “To Ghanaians”, flanked by two Ghana flags.
“This past days have been very difficult for every Ghanaian and every Ghanaian football fan, and myself,” he said.
“I would like to apologise for the results of the AFCON that we just exited. We should have done better. We should have gotten better results too.”
Ghana missed out on a place in the Round of 16 after finishing third in a group consisting of Cape Verde, Egypt and Mozambique.
The Black Stars lost 2-1 to Cape Verde before back to back 2-2 draws against Egypt and Mozambique confirmed Ghana’s elimination from the tournament.
The Black Stars, for the second successive tournament, exited at the group stages without registering a win, extending the country’s wait for its fifth AFCON title to 42 years
