Ghana will not face any of the top African teams, including sworn rivals Nigeria, in the qualifiers for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in the Ivory Coast.
This is because Ghana are among the 12 top seeds and so will avoid the likes of Nigeria, African champions Senegal and Tunisia. Others in Pot 1 include DR Congo, Egypt, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Mali, Algeria, Cameroon and hosts Ivory Coast.
South Africa leads Pot 2 alongside Cape Verde and Kenya, which means the Black Stars and Bafana Bafana may meet again after their last meeting in World Cup qualifiers ended in controversy.
Pot 3 includes Guinea Bissau, Gambia, and Angola, while Pot 4 includes Tanzania and Sudan.
The remaining 48 teams in the tournament will be divided into a dozen groups of four, with the top two teams advancing to the tournament proper.
After recently defeating the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Black Stars are considered favourites to qualify regardless of the group they are assigned to in the qualifiers.
The Afcon qualifiers will start in June this year.
