Heart of Lions recorded their first win (2-0) of the season when they hosted Berekum Chelsea at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Sunday, December 31, 2023, in match week 17 of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.
The returnees had to wait for 15 games to pick their first three points in the Ghana top flight, going into this game on the back of another defeat (1-0) to Legon Cities.
The Berekum Blues came into the game after they were held to a goalless draw by Bofoakwa Tano.
Despite the win, Heart of Lions are bottom of the league with 11 points, with Berekum Chelsea falling from fourth to sixth with 27 points.
The Kpando-based snatched the lead seven minutes in when Ebenezer Abban converted the early penalty.
10 minutes after, Nana Oppong doubled the lead for the home side to send them into the break 2-0 up.
The home side held on to deliver a much awaited victory after 8 years on their return to the Ghana Premier League.
