2022 World Cup: Asamoah Gyan admits he must play consistently to earn Black Stars call-up –

Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has admitted that he needs to play consistently in order to be called up to the Black Stars for the 2022 World Cup.

Gyan said last week to the BBC that he desires a return to the Black Stars after a three-year absence.

However, the 36-year-old admitted that he will need to get his body in shape and become match-fit to be considered.

Gyan reiterated that point on the Dentaa Show, amidst mixed reactions from Ghanaians following his interview.

“Anything can happen, but I want to earn the call-up rather. I want to start playing competitively. It could be anywhere. It could be in the Ghana [Premier] League,” he said.

“I want to see myself in a team playing week in and week out before I can consider going to the World Cup,” he added.

Gyan has not played active football since leaving Legon Cities at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Ghana have been housed in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay.

The 2022 World Cup is scheduled to kick off from 20 November to 18 December.
