Reigning champions Ghana are headed for their title defence at the 2022 West Africa Football Union (Wafu) Zone-B Under-20 Cup of Nations in Niger with a 20-man squad.
The 7-team biennial sub-regional Championship – which serves as qualifiers for the next U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) slated for Egypt in 2023 – gets underway in Niamey this weekend – from May 7 to the 20th.
The Black Satellites departed Accra Wednesday morning for Niamey after long preparations by head coach Karim Zito who has been camping his charges in Prampram since December 2021.
Ghana are in Group B where they will compete with Nigeria and Burkina Faso for a spot in the semifinal stage.
They begin their campaign against the Flying Eagles of Nigeria on May 8 before taking on the Young Stallions of Burkina Faso six days later
The Black Satellites squad is dominated by Dreams FC who contributed three players, followed by one-time Ghana Premier League champions Berekum Chelsea and third-tier side Benab FC with two each.
League leaders Asante Kotoko are represented by enterprising right-back Augustine Agyapong while goalkeeper Benjamin Yeboah is also the only Hearts of Oak player in the squad.
Conspicuously missing is winger Clinton Duodu who was dropped in favour of his Bechem United teammate Emmanuel Annor.
