Ghana fell 1-0 to debutants Mexico in their opening match at the 2020 Maurice Revello (formerly Toulon) Tournament currently underway in France on Monday.
Víctor Guzmán scored to condemn third-time campaigners the Black Satellites to defeat in the final minutes of the game at the Stade De Lattre de Tassigny.
It was a game largely dominated by the El Tri while Ghana managed to hold their own.
But during a spell in which the Black Satellites looked to be gaining confidence in front of goal through efforts by substitute Abass Salifu Samari, captain Ibrahim Zubairu and Emmanuel Annor who came the closest to scoring but got denied by goalkeeper Héctor Holguín in the 79th minute, they conceded.
The Mexicans got out of their shells and broke the deadlock through a Victor Guzmán strike from outside the box in the 83rd minute. The 20-year-old defender cut his marker to go to his left and sent the ball to the lower right corner, an angle that goalkeeper Vincent Anane could not stretch to.
1-0 the game ended after an additional time of 5 minutes. Watch match highlights:
