Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has ascribed 2010 as his most successful year in his illustrious playing career.
Gyan was named as one of the best footballers in that year both at the continental and world level following his scintillating performance and that contributed to him been crowned the BBC African Footballer of the Year while also making CAF’s Team of the Year.
The 38 year old contributed to Ghana’s astonishing feat qualifying to the quarter finals stage of FIFA World Cup for the first time before being knocked out by Uruguay on penalties.
“2010 was my most successful year. I went back to my club scoring goals, I was fit so going to the World Cup I was confident – the most confident player in the world. I felt very good, everything was working. I came to music and music was working.
Everything was working for me in 2010 so going there I knew I was going to deliver,” Gyan told Happy FM in an interview.
Asamoah Gyan is Ghana’s all time top scorer with 51 goals from 109 appearances and Africa’s top goal scorer in the history of the World Cup.
