Starlets Ladies player Matilda Assabil made history over the week after making her competitive debut at just ten years old.
The midfielder beat the record set by American Olivia Moultrie, who featured for Portland Thorns against Racing Louisville at the age of 15.
Assabil like many other young footballers in Ghana is hoping to make it to the highest stage and has dreams of playing for the Black Queens of Ghana.
“I started from Takoradi and came to Tema. My dad encouraged me to play,” she told 3 Sports.
“I’m enjoying it so I ma not giving up. I will continue playing and I will give my best because they give me what I need,” she added.
Playing among players older than her can be difficult with a high risk on injuries, but her coach Evans Tetteh reveals she’s been instructed to make it simple when she has the ball.
“We’ve spoke to her. We’ve asked her to make the ball simple and she is very respectful and does what she is instructed to do, this is why we play her in games,” he said.
Matilda Assabil revealed Ronaldinho as her inspiration.
