?? Laporte withdraws from Spain squad

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte has withdrawn from the Spanish national team, the club has confirmed.

Laporte was instrumental as Man City won the English Premier League title on Sunday, coming from two goals down to beat Aston Villa to lift the crown.

The Spaniard revealed he had been playing with a knee injury since the Wolves game, but braved on to see his side over the line.

“I’ve been uncomfortable with my knee since Wolves, but I wanted to help City until the end, and I am glad I did,” Laporte wrote in a social media post.

“Now that the season is over I will follow the medical process and start rehab to get back to full fitness quickly.”

A statement from the club on Wednesday read;

“The central defender suffered an injury to his right knee and will now focus on rest and recovery,”

Spain have four Nations League matches in June, with the first, against Portugal, set for Thursday, June 2.

They then face the Czech Republic three days later, before taking on Switzerland on June 9.

The last clash of the month will be a return match against the Czechs.
