?Manchester United confirm Europa League spot despite loss, Leeds survive

Manchester United will play in the Europa League next season after they finished fifth in the Premier League on Sunday.

This is despite losing 1-0 away to Cyrstal Palace in the last match of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

Ralf Rangnick’s side went into the match sitting fifth and knew a win could be enough to see them march into Europe’s second-tier club competition regardless of results elsewhere.

They however lost the clash after Wilfried Zaha struck the only goal of the match in the 37th minute to condemn them to yet another defeat in what was Ralf Rangnick’s last match in charge.

United will however play in Europe next season, thanks to West Ham’s loss away to Brighton.

The Hammers had a chance of climbing above United in the standings but were stunned 2-1 at Amex Stadium despite leading 1-0 at the break.

David Moyes’ side will now play in the Conference League, UEFA’s third-tier club competition.

Elsewhere, Leeds United confirmed their Premier League status for next season thanks to a 2-1 win over 10-man Brentford.

Raphinha scored from the spot in the 56th minute before Sergi Canos equalised in the 78th minute.

Leeds however had the last laugh as Jack Harrison scored with virtually the last kick of the match to ensure they will be playing Premier League football next season.

This means Burnley, Watford and Norwich are relegated.
